I do belong to a small village called Marne in Udupi and most of the villagers here are BJP supporters. I stay here in Bangalore but few issues pertaining to my village really makes feel bad about my viilage. The major issue is being that of drinking water as well as water for irrigation. As a child I do remember the viilage rivers not getting dried up even in the harshest summer, but for for the past two decades or so the village is facing acute water shortage & the successive goverments or th e ZPs or the village Panchayat never bothered to attend ths issue. Also I think the people are also fed up with the system and never bothered whether they do have the basic eminities or not. Earlier there were few vented dams ( anekattu) or even the villagers unitedly working for a simple "Katta" using stones or soils or tree branches. The water table used to remain firmly just below few feet on the river bed and ther was no water scarcity. But as those old people are no more and youngsters are no more interested in carrying forward the legacy of their fore fathers no one knows what actually it mean by a anekattu or katta. My request to the honourable member is that please look into this burning issue and help the villagers in getting the water through out the year by constructing few small scales dams in every village and that essentially include my belowed village MARNE.
